Miss. Mature Queen 2015/2016
Miss Norisa Richards
Norisa Richards is a 28 year old Gemini University of St. Martin student. She is employed at the Government of St. Maarten in the Department of Education at the Ministry of Education, Cultural, Youth and Sports. She describes herself as someone who is honest, caring, intelligent, hardworking, ambitious, generous, adventurous, reliable and trustworthy. She’s easy going person with a great sense of humor, equally enthusiastic and amusing, yet pleasantly calm and outspoken.
Norisa comes from a family who has always encouraged her to never give up on her dreams. They have continuously supported every one of her goals from maintaining a keen interest in cosmetology, to writing short stories and poetry, swimming, singing, soccer, track & field, soft ball. She believes their constant love and support instilled her desire to give support and mentor to children and coaching the love for track & field.
It hasn’t always been easy as Norisa lost her mom “Shirley van Heyningen” to cancer on May 26, 2013. When her mother was diagnosed, Norisa was shattered. This era in her life encouraged her to realize that now would be the time for me to step up and assume my role as eldest to assist with my siblings. It was time to fully mature and take care of the responsibilities that awaited her. One of Norisa’s favourite quote is “Time and tide waits for no man.” She believes that spending quality time with loved ones is the most important because you never know when time would be taken.
Norisa won the prestigious title of Miss Mature during Carnival 46, a title that she holds dear to hear heart. Norisa believes being successful is giving your all whether you win or lose - if you learn something valuable in the experience then you have achieved success. Norisa says the best advice she ever received was, "It's never too late to become what you might have been."
